DRIVABLE GRASS®
A PERMEABLE, ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE TO CONCRETE, ASPHALT & MORE

(September 30, 2011 – CARLSBAD, CA) – DRIVABLE GRASS® is the latest eco-friendly product manufactured by Soil Retention, a company specializing in Plantable concrete systems®.

Introduced to the market in 2006, DRIVABLE GRASS® consists of concrete muffins that are connected by a grid system. The tile-like, 2’x2’ squares “flex” and conform to uneven ground surfaces without separating. Even when saturated, DRIVABLE GRASS® maintains the characteristics of a drivable, grassy surface while minimizing wheel rutting and water runoff.

The unique lattice-style structure allows plant vegetation, such as turf grass, to grow right through it, while still providing a solid surface comparable to more common paving materials, such as asphalt and concrete.

“We believe it’s up to all of us to help keep our neighborhoods healthy and clean,” says Engineer Jan Jansson, Founder and President of Soil Retention. “The permeable structure of DRIVABLE GRASS® enables precipitation to infiltrate in the underlying soils, thus increasing on-site stormwater storage and minimizing runoff,” he says. “Vehicle oils would normally run down a typical concrete driveway and go right into our storm drains and ultimately into our oceans, lakes and rivers. DRIVABLE GRASS® is helping to solve one of the biggest environmental problems facing our country today.”

Alternatives infill choices instead of grass include sand, gravel, ground cover, artificial grass and sod.

DRIVABLE GRASS® is easy to install and can be used in a variety of residential and commercial applications, such as golf cart paths, driveways, RV parking, green roofs, boat ramps, utility easements, parking lots, fire access lanes, service vehicle utility roads, emergency vehicle access drives, bio-swales, and truck maintenance and equipment yards. DRIVABLE GRASS® qualifies for numerous LEED credits.

Soil Retention’s full line of Plantable concrete systems® also includes VERDURA® - a fully plantable retaining wall system, and ENVIROFLEX® - a tapered, vertically interlocking articulating concrete block (ACB) revetment system.
