Spread The Mix and
Install the Mat

Smooth and compact your soil mixture (70% sand /30% organic material), leaving 1.5” for the Drivable Grass mats.

Making sure your surface is level is very important to the success of your project. Screeding, or rod boarding, with a 4 to 8 foot long straight 2x4 can be used to level the soil mixture.

Start placing the Drivable Grass mats. When the mats are lifted, they will bend and crack at the joints. The cracks allow the mat to flex under load, assist drainage, and provide pathways for plant roots to establish in the underlying soils.

It is very important to make sure that the mats securely butt up against each other. Cut mats in joints with a hammer and chisel at grid locations. If curves or off shape cuts are required then use a concrete cutting blade or a concrete saw. For difficult installations please call a paving contractor.

Fill and Seed.

Fill the Drivable Grass mat with soil mixture. Fill to the top of the Drivable Grass mats. Use a broom to gently spread the material evenly. Broadcast grass seed over the surface, we also recommend mixing some seed with the soil mixture. Contact your local nursery for recommended seed mixture for your climate.

Cover the seeding with a top dressing of organic material. This helps retain moisture for seed germination. If choosing to install sand, gravel, artificial turf or other non-plantable applications as an alternative in-fill, the soil mixture below the mats
(See Step 4) should be 100% sand and can be 1” deep as a leveling base.

You're Finished!

Water regularly in the beginning and keep it moist to help establish the new grass.

Treat the new grass like your typical lawn turf and mow when it reaches 2” to 3”.
